5.2 Getting data into the database

The first requirement for interactive work with the event editor EEV or SE is to get the data into the database.

There are two ways to get data into the database, as described in section 5.2.1 and 5.2.3. It is of course possible to make the individual S-files directly in the REA directories with the editor. This would be rather slow, and be against the philosophy of the system. However, it is mentioned in order to point out how simple the database structure is.

The SEISAN system can be used with or without digital data, the only difference to the directory structure is that the WAV and CAL directories are present when using digital waveform data. However the way of getting data into the database differs in the two cases and will be described separately.
